AkomaAsa Arts, is a multi-disciplinary arts education and cultural empowerment organisation that has been running for over 10 years. The Academy offers dance, music, drama and performance training in two arts educational programmes: African Diaspora Dance & Music and Performing Arts. These programmes are made accessible to children and young people (CYP) aged 6- 16+.

 

Founded by

 Akosua Boakye BEM

AkomaAsa Arts, founded 2005, launched in 2012 is a multi-disciplinary arts education and cultural empowerment organisation. We offer dance, music, drama and performance training for children and young people (CYP) aged 6- 16+.

The academy offers two arts educational programmes: African Diaspora Dance & Music and Performing Arts. 

Akosua, the founder and director of AkomaAsa Performing Arts Academy, is a distinguished figure in the realm of performing arts. She serves as a director, dance education and performing arts movement practitioner. Additionally, Akosua holds the roles of Cub Academy coordinator and Children's Casting Director for Disney's West End musical, The Lion King, both in London and on the UK tour. 

Her work supports children and young people to empower themselves through arts, culture and heritage, develop skills they need for dance, performing arts and future in life, build strong positive relationships, networks in the world and develop understanding for their health well-being.     

In 2019 she co-founded the Thea Barnes Legacy Fund (TBLF), a donor supported independent fund established that supports individuals in creative areas that reflect Thea’s interest in arts and academy 

Recognised for her work in the creative industry Akosua was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) from the New Years Honours list, the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD) trailblazer fellowship and the One Dance UK Teaching Mentoring Programme.
